The Two Sides of Eve Falcon by Doug Vaccaro DJ, producer and vocalist Eve Falcon has become a premier name in progressive house & breaks throughout the U.S. and the world. As a DJ, Eve is renowned for her energy behind the decks, as well as her intelligent programming and unique knack for connecting with her audience. The media has noticed and the buzz is on. URB Magazine chose Eve for their highly regarded "Next 100" issue, and BPM Magazine declared Eve a winner of their "Next On The Decks" competition. She has rocked dancefloors alongside heavyweights such as Hybrid, Christopher Lawrence, Donald Glaude, DJ Irene, D:Fuse and Ferry Corsten. Also, Allen & Heath, makers of the world's finest mixers brought Eve on board to demo their latest gear at the internationally acclaimed NAMM convention and Remix Hotel in Southern California. Eve has headlined at prestige venues in Hong Kong, Peru, Mexico City, China and Argentina. Stateside, she has performed in Philadelphia, Miami, New Mexico, Milwaukee, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and numerous other cities. Eve enjoys playing many different styles and refuses to stick to just one. In addition to her passion for DJing, Eve's natural talent as a producer and vocalist have led to collaborations with a wide variety of artists, and garnered significant exposure. One key project was Eve's vocal contribution to the Sandra Collins trance classic "Ode To Our" on Fragrant Records and produced by Deepsky. Eve's vocals and producing skills can currently be heard on her latest track, Eve Falcon & Desert Sol - Know It All. The radio edit was released on the CD compilation "Femme Fatales" featuring Jes Breiden and Collette. Now, Know It All is poised to shoot far into the global realm. This track, along with remixes by proghouse darlings, the 16 Bit Lolitas, as well as Mike Hiratzka, DJ Johan, Kilowatts and Deeptone vs. Slighter, are being released on the pioneering label out of the Netherlands, Cyber Records. ![]() Hello Eve! How are things out on the left coast? Cold and windy in LA with a chance of showers. Thanks for asking! So give me the backgoround on how you got into DJing? Well, I got a very early start. I actually started radio DJing when I was 13 years old and did that all the way through college. I was lucky enough to get into the community staff of a college radio station and did shows ranging from alternative to jazz to classical to reggae-I even did a gospel show once. I just wanted to explore every kind of music and really loved it! Let's just say it was a total learning experience for me, not just on a musical level, but also in understanding an integral part of DJing you only gain from experience, the journey. I guess I was inadvertently preparing my whole life to be the DJ I am now and never really realized it until relatively recently. Between the radio shows and the mixtapes I'd make for my friends, that's really how my DJ psyche began. Then after being inspired by nightclubs in NY like Twilo, Soundfactory, Limelight and countless concerts and parties, I knew this was something I could be good at. So, I started messing around on the turntables and realized it was something I should have been doing all along. So here I am today. and I like to think I'm still learning and expanding my horizons musically and as a performer. Ah you're a New Yorker then? I've had quite a few nights out at the clubs you mentioned. Good times indeed! Ah very nice! You know, you can take the girl out of New York but you can't take the New York out of the girl. Very true! And how about producing? Rumor has it you've got a release coming up on Cyber Records. Tell us about it. Yes, I produced and sang on the track Eve Falcon & Desert Sol - "Know It All." It was a true collab with my buddy Shawn Parker aka Desert Sol. The original is kind of a sexy mellow breaks vibe with remixes by 16 Bit Lolitas, Deeptone Vs Slighter, KiloWatts and Mike Hiratzka. It's getting attention from artists such as Nubreed, Steve May, Slacker, Blue Room Project and just last night at Avalon, I spotted it on one of Sasha's CDs in his binder! Cool, eh? I'm real excited that a label as well-respected as Cyber is putting it out. It will be released round the Winter Music Conference. Yeah the Kilowatt Remix you played on your mix for us is stunning. You have a beautiful voice! Thanks so much! I think Kilowatt did a wonderful job, as did the other talented producers. ![]() Can’t wait to hear the others! So you’re a frequent guest at Avalon in Los Angeles. What has been your most memorable moment in the booth? Well yes I'm very grateful to be playing at Avalon. It's an amazing space with a sound system to die for. As far as memorable moments. Last November, I opened for Hybrid and Mike Truman was so impressed with me, he kept leaving the smoking patio to come inside and hear me play. He then inquired about a few tracks I played and said that I should open for them again. You just don't forget moments like that! Then in January of this year, I played a nearly 4-hour set in the main room opening for Ferry Corsten. Talk about ample time to build a proper journey! ;) It was amazing building up into that last hour. I was almost ready to hand-off to Ferry and I gave the packed, trance-loving crowd two Hybrid tracks. I played Killahurtz - Kiss for the Dying and their remix of Gouryella's Walhalla. The tracks definitely had breakier elements and it felt good to me that the dancefloor didn't skip a beat. My friend who was there said something along the lines of "if you can give the trance crowd Hybrid and they like it, then you definitely know what you're doing." I'm always looking to push the envelope and turn different crowds on to different styles. Now I'm gearing up for my next show at Avalon with Dave Seaman and Hernan Cattaneo. Can't wait! Massive! I've heard some really good stories about Avalon in LA. It's now on my 'To Do' list for sure. So what do you like to do during your downtime? How does Eve like to relax when not playing in the clubs? I enjoy chilling at home with my cats and watching a good flick or just something random and funny--gotta love laughing! Oh, and going out to eat good vegetarian food - preferably spicy. I can relax for hours with friends doing brunch, or at a café drinking coffee. Then there's roaming art galleries, farmers markets or hiking. Oh yeah, and listening to good music of course. Speaking of relaxing, you just reminded me to schedule my next massage, thanks! A lot of people have a hard time with this but I'm confident you can knock it out. What are your ALL TIME top 10 albums/EPs? 1) John Coltrane - The John Coltrane Anthology 2) Art of Noise - The Seduction of Claude Debussey 3) The Beatles - Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band 4) Hybrid - Wide Angle 5) Kate Bush - The Kick Inside 6) Cocteau Twins - The Blue Bell Knoll 7) Bob Marley - Legend 8) BT - Ima 9) Orbital 2 10) Seal – Seal ![]() Very nice. BT seems to fall in a lot of peoples choices. So what's still on the plate for 2006? Any more records in the works? YES! I am actually back in the studio right now writing a new track with a producer I’ve long admired. I don’t wanna give away who it is just yet until the track is completely finished. But let’s just say with the chemistry the two of us have, I’ve got real high hopes that this will get picked up as well. So, I do plan to keep writing/producing and doing vocals into 2006 and beyond. I also plan to keep up my DJ schedule… This year the shows have ranged from Mexico to Idaho. From New Mexico to Portland and with many more in the works. That all sounds fantastic. It was so nice talking with you Eve! Next time you’re back in New York we must catch up! Nice talking with you too! I’m really honored you asked me to be a part of this month of talented artists. Oh, and when I come to NY, I hope you like Indian food because my favorite place is on Indian row in the East Village. Let’s hit that! It's on! Best of luck to ya Eve! Thanks Doug. It's been a real pleasure! And I truly hope everyone enjoys my mix here. I'm so happy about the great response it's gotten already.
