Resin Records is home to some of the most innovative sounds in the UK breaks scene and beyond. The label was set up with the agenda to release breaks-inspired future funk that will rip up any dance floor but have enough inventiveness and musicality for the car, the home and the headphones. Uninterested in DJ fillers, Resin releases are consistently well produced, innovative slabs of vinyl that have picked up props from all across the breaks scene and beyond. Since its first release in 2002, the label has grown from strength to strength with a repertoire of artists from around the world and tracks that have gained huge props and critical acclaim. Resin has earned its respect by being fiercely independent, pushing a style of sound that is unique within the world of breaks. Taishan This is well represented on the 12th release on Resin (due out at the end of Feb). MT Vs Taishan ‘Samba Hustle’ combines the acclaimed dub explorations and fat club beats of Taishan, responsible for last years anthem ‘No Stress,' with the urban Carnival vibes of Brazilian MT. The raw, visceral chants of Funk Carioca (Brazil’s ghetto music) and the incessant samba rhythms slam headfirst into the blistering beats and sub b-lines of modern breaks to create an infectious mix that is tough yet playful and melodic yet tribal. Keeping up the international theme, on the flip BOOGIE ARMY from Germany strips down the sound to create a deep vibe underpinned by a bubbling bassline and fat beats. Funk stabs, latin percussion and a wicked chopped vocal gives the track an irresistible energy before the searing strings drop in at the breakdown to lift the track to spine tingling levels. A corker of a remix. There is a lot of interest about this record already gathering and it looks to be one of the standout tracks of the year. Other artists on the label include Coded Motion, Clone, Scruffy D and Baitercell & Schumacher who released the mighty ‘The Bass Is Injected’ back in November.
